Leo*Leo reflects on Violence, Chadwick Stokes Tour & The Dispatch Question

This week we arrived to Boston.  Vanessa flew back to Los Angeles.  We’re applying to NXNE, waiting to hear back from SXSW.  We have so much to be grateful for and we are.

Also, we took time while on tour to discuss what has been going on in the media recently.  The social injustices, the riots, the opinions.  Our unreleased song “Going/Been” discusses a relationship where it can be difficult to pin point the beginning, the forward movement and the steps backward –  suffering and confusion.  We send our thoughts and encourage your voices.  Fists are not necessary.

Last week we received the fantastic opportunity of supporting Chadwick Stokes in his tour to DC, Philly, and NYC.  We played 3 sold out shows.  Two of the biggest venues we’ve ever played:  The Hamilton & The Bowery Ballroom.  We met incredible, passionate, talented people like Ryan Gaughan (and Stef Emery!!!!) and every musician in Chad’s band – along with his powerful wife, Sybil.  Daniel Schwartz and staff took care of us with kindness and generosity in D.C.  The crowd there was so warm.  This was the first time we witnessed the inspiring performance of Mr. Stokes!  The guitarist, Stevy played so tastefully & wild, J.R.’s drumming was in the pocket, Martin’s bass & keys were classic-soulful- and Casey Sullivan (also of Air Traffic Controller)  sang like 4 angels.  Will’s harmonies, trombone, & floor tom added another emotional and harmonic depth to each song.

In Philly, Jules took care of us at the Boot & Saddle.  The audience was so spirited – singing along to the cover of Chad’s beautiful song “Don’t Have You” .  We loved seeing bearded men shamelessly dancing (and buying our pink t-shirts!).  We met Bruce Warren – a man with equal measures brain and passion for music, of the incredible radio station WXPN, and talked.  Just talked and got to know one another.  (P.S. the food in Philly was SOO good).

On December 4th, we made it to Trenton, New Jersey.  Yes, Trenton.  Firstly, let’s be clear – this town has some of the sweetest, most welcoming people we’ve come across.  We went to the Trenton Farmer’s market, ate gluten-free at Button’s Creperie – where the crepes are better than in Paris.   The Hambone Opera was unbelievable.  That BBQ sauce is unreal :).  Food aside, everyone we met was so warm.  We stayed at the Wyndham, thanks to Peter & John Morris – this would be the first night of good sleep.  When our truck wouldn’t start (despite knowing the problem) we had 3 strangers appear to offer us tools and assistance.  We met n’ made a new friend and creative mind from Trenton that day, Black Collar Biz,  (performed with him on stage at the Bowery the next day-adding a rap to Dancing Queen) and got to witness his dedication to community & music at Black Diamond Studios.  We are going to work on song together soon and cannot wait to make it back to Trenton.  We love that town.

In NYC, we made care packages for refugees with folks from Calling All Crows.  Our parking Karma was right on and we were able to stay in front of the Bowery Ballroom all night.  Thank you to Kieran for being so inviting.  We met new friends, Damian, Benjamin, Victoria, and Mike – and got to hang with our favorite bassist, Drew.  This would be the night when we’d close our set with the hip hop version of  Dancing Queen – to a crowd swaying hands and cheering us on.  We felt incredible to have so many people support us by singing along and participating in conversation us on stage.  Sarah Hope’s parents were in the crowd where we finally got the chance to thank them publicly for their unwavering support.  We could not have done any of this without them.

We hope that you all could feel how much this experience meant to us.  We loved your energy – each city different from the next.

Thank you to Chadwick, team and family for taking us on this magnificent ride.  :))))

Please include yourself in our memories by signing up to our email list – we will be dispersing video and pictures that we captured (courtesy of Jenn Márquez Photography).  Also, let us know if you have pictures/video of the show that you want to share – whether you gottem on Instagram, Twitter or YouTube !  Find us on PANDORA and totally connect with us whenever.  We’d love to hear from you.
